Midway Criminal History Checks

Midway's official law-enforcement page states that Davidson County Sheriff provides service around the clock. That fact controls the first step for police reports. Town Hall is not the place to request a deputy's narrative, and there is no Midway Police Department database to search.

1. Request the incident or arrest report from Davidson County Sheriff's Office and supply the record type, date, name, or case number.
2. Use the sheriff's active inmate list when the question is current Davidson County custody.
3. Search North Carolina eCourts or ask the Davidson Clerk for charges, hearings, and final disposition.
4. Contact Midway Town Hall only for town administration records such as minutes, budgets, and municipal business.
5. Use SBI Right to Review for your own fingerprint-supported North Carolina criminal history.

No single result replaces the rest. A deputy report covers the alleged event. A booking shows custody, while the court file shows prosecution and outcome. SBI keeps the state repository layer when fingerprint data was submitted.

A certified Davidson name search is available from the clerk for $25. It searches Davidson court records and excludes juvenile records. It is not a biometric SBI report. A courthouse public terminal offers free noncertified statewide viewing and emailing when certification is not needed.

Midway Sheriff Contract Records

The Midway law-enforcement page names the Davidson County Sheriff's Office as the town's 24-hour provider.

That contract is the town's local policing system. The fiscal year 2025-26 budget sets aside $74,499 for contracted sheriff service and $5,501 for extra deputies or special events, for a total public-safety appropriation of $80,000. These amounts describe government spending, not report-copy fees.

For a Midway event, the sheriff's Records Division is the law-enforcement custodian. It processes criminal investigations, arrests, and related reports. The office does not become a town department merely because Midway pays for a service level.

A useful DCSO request identifies the record type and gives the relevant date, name, or case number. The official gateway states that a report response arrives by email in three to five business days. It does not publish a fixed fee, direct Records email, fax, mail route, or certified-copy promise. Those gaps should lead to a call for current terms, not to an assumed free copy. Town Hall cannot quote or waive a sheriff report charge because the report remains a county law-enforcement record.

Records at the Midway Police Department

There is no Midway Police Department. A search for its records will lead to the wrong place because no municipal police records unit exists. Davidson County Sheriff's Office accepts a Copy of Report request through its official site and asks for the record type plus relevant dates, names, or case numbers.

The sheriff lists 2511 E US Hwy 64, Lexington, NC 27292 and main phone (336) 242-2105. Midway's own page lists a sheriff contact number of (336) 242-2100. Use 911 for emergencies. The official sheriff workflow says a requested report is sent by email in three to five business days, but no report fee, direct records email, or mail route was published.

North Carolina law does not make the full criminal investigation file public merely because a deputy worked under the town contract. A requester can ask for enumerated public facts about the event and arrest, while narrative detail may be withheld or redacted. Describe the desired record and date rather than asking staff for an undefined “background check.”

Three Midway Record Custodians

Midway has three distinct official record holders. Town Hall keeps municipal administration. The sheriff keeps law-enforcement and county detention records. Davidson Clerk and eCourts keep judicial cases. Sending one broad request to all three can yield three partial answers.

Choose by document, not by the mailing address printed on the result. That principle is especially useful in Midway because Town Hall uses a Winston-Salem postal city.

The three offices also apply different access limits. Town budgets and minutes follow the ordinary public-record route. A deputy file is subject to the criminal investigation rule, which leaves specified incident and arrest facts public but generally protects the full investigative record. A court file follows judicial access rules and can omit sealed, expunged, juvenile, or confidential material. Receiving one of those records does not grant access to the other two, even when all concern the same Midway event.

Booking and Arrest Records in Midway

A contracted Davidson deputy who makes an arrest creates a sheriff report. If the person enters Davidson detention, jail intake creates a separate booking number and custody record. The active inmate list supports current checks, not a historical search of every Midway arrest.

A released person may no longer appear. An entry that does appear is not proof of guilt. The booking can list more than one charge, and the broad F or M label does not establish the final offense class or sentence. Use eCourts or the Clerk to learn whether a charge was amended, dismissed, resolved by plea, tried, or still pending.

Midway Crime Record Limits

Midway does not operate a reporting police agency of its own, so SBI's annual agency table has no Midway Police total. Davidson County Sheriff's 1,006 reported index offenses for 2024 cover a much broader patrol and contract area. Those counts cannot be relabeled as “Midway crime.”

This gap is useful. It prevents a countywide sheriff statistic from being assigned to town residents or treated as a list of Midway arrests. For a local incident, use the deputy's report and its location. For community trends, seek a source that actually identifies Midway's geography and methods.

The Midway Municipal Court File

Midway has no municipal court. North Carolina uses one statewide General Court of Justice. If a Midway ordinance matter becomes a criminal case or infraction, District Court handles it. Superior Court handles felony trials and certain appeals.

A Town Hall ordinance file can explain the municipal rule, but the clerk holds the state court prosecution and judicial outcome.

Midway Records and Postal Geography

Midway Town Hall is at 426 Gumtree Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27107. The Winston-Salem mailing city does not place the town or an incident in Forsyth County by itself. Postal labels and legal jurisdiction answer different questions.

How Midway Records Reach the County

A sheriff's deputy creates the incident or arrest record under the town contract. Davidson detention creates custody data if a booking follows. Prosecutors file the case in North Carolina's District or Superior Court system, and the clerk records the disposition. Fingerprinted arrest cycles and available outcomes may later reach SBI.

This flow explains why the same name or event can look different across sources. A current roster cannot show a later dismissal. A court docket does not contain the full deputy narrative. An SBI self-review can lack a disposition that the Clerk already holds.

Midway History Shapes Its Records

Midway incorporated on June 29, 2006. The town's official history ties its name to the midpoint between Winston-Salem and Lexington.

The town's history also describes the Eller railroad depot, tobacco agriculture, Old US 52, and incorporation as a way to preserve local identity amid growth. Incorporation created a municipal record set for budgets, meetings, and ordinances. It did not create a police department or local court.

Census estimates placed Midway at 5,053 residents in 2024 and 5,104 in 2025. Those estimates make it the project's third city, ahead of Denton, but population rank does not change which agency keeps criminal records.

Older Midway Arrest Record Search

When an older Midway arrest no longer appears on the active inmate list, start with the sheriff's Copy of Report request. Give the record type, date, name, and case number when known. The official response target is email within three to five business days.

Next, use eCourts or the Clerk to locate the judicial outcome. For a certified Davidson name search, submit AOC-CR-314 and the $25 fee. For your own fingerprint-supported North Carolina repository history, use SBI Right to Review with a complete ten-print card and the $14 payment.

No historical booking database, public warrant master search, sheriff app, or local clearance-letter product was verified. Use the documented request and court chain instead of assuming one exists.

If the sheriff report and court result appear to conflict, compare their dates and purposes. The report preserves the agency's account at the investigation stage. The clerk may later show a different filed charge or final disposition. For your own SBI history, a missing court outcome should be corrected with the clerk before asking SBI to update the repository entry.

Midway Record Access Rules

North Carolina Public Records Law covers records made or received in public business, regardless of form. That includes Midway administrative material and records held by county agencies. The statute permits inspection and copies at reasonable times, yet criminal investigation files have special limits.

A sheriff response may therefore provide public facts but withhold or redact investigative detail. Sealed, expunged, juvenile, and confidential court material also remains outside ordinary public access.

Ordinary copy fees are limited to actual cost, while extensive clerical, technology, or supervisory work can support a special service charge. Ask for an estimate when a Midway request is broad. The research did not locate a fixed sheriff report-copy fee, so do not send payment until the custodian quotes it.
